How did the Magna Carta affect the development of a national identity in England?

The Magna Carta affected the development of a national identity in England because it was what limited the king and the pope's powers.  One example is that the king had to obey the laws of the people so that he could not become too powerful.  This was all because there was disagreement when it came to the powers over the Church.
