Answer:

The poll tax ordinance was a law passed in 1852 by the British colonial administration to raise money for development. It was signed by Major Stephen John hill. The poll tax made it obligatory for every citizen in Gold coast to pay one shillings each every year. An amount of 7,500 euros was raised in the first year but failed in 1862.
